Paul Tabeling, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the age of 101. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy Tabeling for over 65 years, loving father of Sam (MaryLee) Tabeling, Larry Tabeling, Mark Tabeling, Susan (Bob) Reese, Carol (Ken) Scheffel, and Sally (Jeff) Feldmann; cherished grandfather of Amy (Hernan) Moscoso, Robert (Annie) Reese, Emily Reese, Lauren (Darrick) Johnson, Kent (Stephanie) Koester Jr., Whitney Scheffel (Steven Garner), Austin Koester; great-grandfather of Jackson and Noah Deutch, Robert and Parker Reese; dear brother of the late Harry (Dorothy) Tabeling, the late Jane (Ambrose) Schwab, the late Betty (Bob) Volpenhein, the late Ruth (Nicholas) Qualantone, Joanne (Donald) Fasold, and Richard (Carol) Tabeling; dear uncle, great-uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Paul was born in Covington, Kentucky on March 27, 1920, and grew up in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. He served in both the Marine Corp. and Navy during WWII as a corpsman (medic) fighting valiantly in the South Pacific and saving the lives of many brave young soldiers during the war. In spite of these hardships, he looked on these years as some of the most precious times of his life. He met the love of his life, Dorothy (Wiechelman) Tabeling after the war. They were happily married and he completed Optometry College. They raised 6 children in their family home in Crestview Hills. He served the Northern Kentucky community for over 40 years as an optometrist. An avid train enthusiast, he entertained many a child on his homebuilt, coal fired steam engine which he drove around his backyard tracks. He was a volunteer at Be Concerned where he used his mechanical skills repairing hundreds of bicycles for the charity. But what he was most known for was his amazing sense of humor that continued until the day he died.
Services: Visitation and Catholic burial service will be at Saint Pius X Church, 348 Dudley Rd. in Edgewood, Kentucky on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 am, followed by mass at 11:00 am. All friends and family are invited to lunch in the undercroft following mass. Interment will be at Saint Mary’s cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Ky at 1:30 pm.
