John Edward Bartmess, 98, of Anderson Township, went home to be with the Lord on October 13th, 2016. He was born on October 5, 1918, in Wilkinsburg, PA, to Nina
and Meigs Bartmess. He had one brother, Meigs, who perished in an air attack in WWII. John built airstrips in England before the Normandy Invasion, and in France after D-Day. He returned to work for Westinghouse as a mechanical engineer and salesman for over 35 years. He is preceded in death by Harriet Ann Smith, his first wife, and Wilma Powell, his second wife. He loved his house in the dense wooded greenspace of Anderson Township, and in later years was an extensive world traveler. He is survived by his three sons, John Ed (Carol) Bartmess of Knoxville, TN, James Bartmess, and Andrew (Karen) Bartmess, and his grandchildren Elizabeth, Julie, Bethany and Katherine. Cremation was done by his choice, and ashes will be spread over the wooded hills and valleys of his secluded forest home.
