Allen William Bumpus January 10, 1935 - April 22, 2020

On Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020 Allen William Bumpus, passed away at the age of 85. Allen was born on January 10th, 1935 to J. Allen and Isabel Bumpus in Birmingham, MI. He graduated from The University of Cincinnati and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He worked at Downing Displays for 30+ years. He married Mary Frances Kaufmann and together they raised one son Richard and two daughters Cynthia and Jennifer. Allen had a passion for art, which he displayed in many forms, mostly abstract oil paintings and sculptures. He was well known throughout the neighborhood for creating snow sculptures, most notably dragons and giraffes. He was also a car enthusiast.  He loved his Corvettes and Cadillac’s.  He also loved to design cars and spending the last weekend of May at the Indianapolis 500.  He loved sitting out on his patio with family and friends, listening and singing along to his favorite music with the perfect martini. Allen will be forever remembered for his infectious smile, gentle eyes, caring heart, loving embrace, and unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us. Allen was preceded in death by his father J. Allen Bumpus, his mother Isabel Bumpus, his wife Mary Frances (Kaufmann) Bumpus, and his daughter Jennifer (Bumpus) Bethel.  He is survived by his children Richard Bumpus and Cynthia (Steve) Schmidt, his sister Molly (Bill) Lowe, his grandchildren Tyler, Micaela, Ashley, Brent, Matthew, Kylie and Kathryn and his great-grandchildren Liam, Wesley, and Rowan.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date due to Covid-19 restrictions. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make memorials and/or donations in Allen’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Cincinnati.
